Why I’m a Proud Feminist

Many people ask me – “Why are you a feminist, instead of a humanist”? My answer has always been the same – one cannot fight for everything with the same passion. You have pick and choose your battles. And for me, that happens to be women’s rights, with a special focus on India.

Does this mean I don’t support gay rights? No! Does it mean I’m insensitive towards the plight of animals? Of course not! It simply means that the issue of women’s rights affects me more directly than either of the above, and so I spend most of my time thinking about it. Does that make me selfish? Probably.

Is that a bad thing? I don’t think so.
